MY APPROACH TO THERAPY

I am a firm believer in cultivating a therapeutic approach that best serves the client & their unique needs.

I am a relational therapist, meaning that I must build a trusting relationship with clients in order for us to have a successful therapeutic experience. Building this connection takes time and it is something that cannot be rushed. The therapeutic relationship between therapist and client is the vessel to which the growth and change occurs.

My counseling techniques can best be described as client centered and strength based with elements of cognitive behavioral therapy, psychoanalytical therapy, and parts work/internal family systems therapy. We build upon our strengths and acknowledge situations in the past that prevent you from getting to where you want to be in the present. Together, we will create individual goals that we work towards in our therapeutic relationship.

During sessions, I implement a combination of talk therapy, play therapy, sand tray therapy, and expressive art therapy.

CHILDREN, PRE-TEENS, & TEENS

I have a very special place in my heart for working with minors. Kids and teens walk this fine line of understanding the rules and expectations while learning to embrace their autonomy as a human being. It is during these developmental years that kids and teens develop their belief system about themselves and the world around them. It is for this reason that I love being able to help support this age group through the hard seasons of life as well as the easier ones. When working with minors, I utilize a combination age-appropriate talk therapy, play therapy, sand tray therapy, and expressive art therapy.

COLLEGE STUDENTS & YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

Being in your 20s is hard and I truly don't think enough people talk about it. The narrative that many of us are told from a young age is that you graduate college, jump into your first adult job, and then what? It feels like you come to the ending of a book that's not finished. In my sessions with this age group, we talk about everything - from celebrating life milestones all the way to holding space to process life crises that encompass this defining decade.

When working with college students and young adults, I use a combination of talk-therapy, sand tray therapy, and expressive arts therapy when appropriate.
